OPEN MUSEUM #6 MUSIC

From 15.07 2020 TO 11.01 2021

In 2020, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille will revolutionise the way we normally perceive works of art. What if, just for once, the museum was open to all the senses? What if it offered a different visitor experience? What if it opened itself up not only to our eyes but also to our ears?

Live the museum in music!

For this new edition of the Open Museum, the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille is inviting the public to listen to the music of the works, that “inner music” inspired by the paintings, the sculptures or even the atmosphere of a room. Sit as you would in your living room in a decor inspired by the works of art in the collection. Discover an eclectic selection of music, classical, jazz, rock, pop, rap, world and soul, established with the artistic complicity of Alexandre Bloch, Music Director of the Orchestre National de Lille and Regis Cotentin, curator of the Open Museum.

This freely chosen mix of genres, from Gioacchino Rossini to Christine and the Queens, via Gustav Mahler and Nina Simone, opens up a lively reading of the works and inspires mental images based on the major themes of art history, from prehistory to the contemporary. The silence of the images becomes sonorous if we listen carefully, if we listen with our eyes.

This event is organized by the Palais des Beaux-Arts / Ville de Lille, with the support of the MEL, the Hauts-de-France region, and thanks to the patronage of Crédit du Nord and M comme Mutuelle, in partnership with the 'Orchestre national de Lille, la Plaine Images, les Inrockuptibles, Radio Nova, France 3 Hauts-de-France and Kartell. As part of Lille Métropole 2020, World Capital of Design.
