Roof ridge

Second half of the 16th century

Wooden roof structures are fragile and require special attention. The ridge, the upper edge of a roof, is sensitive to weather conditions. In order to protect it from water infiltration, some craftsmen created ridge finials, which were initially utilitarian but gradually took on a decorative function.
