The Port of Camaret under stormy skies

Eugène Boudin
1873
At the height of the skies

Boudin is what we call a maritime painter. Yet, what he does best are skies. His friend Corot even nicknamed him "the king of the skies". Like Monet a few years later, he was obsessed with the impalpable variations of light and its reflections, to the point of reproducing the same subject dozens of times, at different moments, without ever repeating himself.
