Olga in Fur Collar

Pablo Picasso
1923
Olga in black and white

After the cubist period and its distortions of form (1907-1914), from 1917 Picasso returned to a classical style of figurative painting. He developed a fresh connection with his sitters, whom he depicted in a traditional fashion. Well, not in a totally traditional fashion... In this portrait of his first wife, Olga, Picasso playfully inserts details which make this a singular work.
