Sonia Delaunay, having long remained in her husband Robert's shadow, is now recognised as one of the major artists of modernity and abstraction. Her art, which may be qualified as Gesamtkunstwerk – or total work of art – as it included pictorial, architectural, textile and decorative creations at the same time, spanned the 20th century, always remaining loyal to the principle of contrasting shapes and colours.
