Roelandt Savery belonged to a family of painters of Flemish origin attached to the Dutch school. From 1604, he worked in Prague for Emperor Rudolf II, who sent him to the Tyrol to bring back drawings. He painted mainly fantastic alpine landscapes with animals. He died mad in Utrecht in 1639.
