Paolo Caliari, known as Veronese, was one of the leading painters of the Venetian school in the 16th century. He completed his first commission for Venice in 1552, where he settled the following year. Color played a key role in his compositions, making him one of the greatest colorists in the history of Renaissance painting. Veronese was also a great decorator, executing important frescoes in villas in the Venice region and monumental compositions in the Doge's Palace.
