Pieter Cornelisz van Slingelandt trained with the painter Gérard Dou (1613-1675), himself a pupil of Rembrandt and founder of the famous Leiden school of fine painting. He specialised in portraits and genre scenes. He was also a draughtsman and miniaturist.
