This Belgian-born sculptor spent most of his life in northern France. Initially trained by his father, a stonemason, he went on to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Initially very smooth, his work then shifted toward a more raw use of stone. His preferred material is blue stone from Soignies, which he works directly.
