In 1834, painter Jean-Baptiste Wicar bequeathed his collection of drawings to the Société des Sciences, de l’Agriculture et des Arts de Lille – the forerunner of the Palais des Beaux-Arts. The collection was over 1,300 strong, and mostly came from Italy. In addition, there was a "Wax Head from the Time of Raphael". But who is hiding behind this pretty face?
